The people served under this initiative are Aboriginal young persons aged 12 -17 at the time of offence, who have been found guilty and are currently on probation, conditional supervision or community supervision.
- The Community Youth Intervention Worker (CYIWs) develops, organizes and supervises activities for the youth and monitors the terms of Probation Orders for the probation officer who is the case manager responsible for the provision and coordination of all services relevant to the YCJA sentence.
Our goal is to assist young persons to gain a better understanding about the effect the young person’s actions has on the community and to give back to the community and the victim in a meaningful way. We help young persons gain new insight into the cause and effects of their behaviour. We are hopeful the process may also lead them to develop new skills, interests or to seek out further training opportunities.
