COMMON EXPERIENCE PAYMENT (CEP)

CEP DEADLINE EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 19, 2012.

"Will there be any exceptions made if I cannot submit my application in time to meet the deadline?
As per the Settlement Agreement, applications will be accepted for up to one year after the application deadline only in such cases where the applicant could not apply within the designated timeframe due to disability, undue hardship or other exceptional circumstances. If you are applying late, you will need to provide a reason, in writing, for the delay in application." It will be up to the CEP Processing Centre to decide if your CEP application will be accepted based on reason(s) provided, in writing.

INDEPENDENT ASSESSMENT PROCESS (IAP)

The Independent Assessment Process (IAP) is an alternative dispute resolution process for former Indian Residential students who experienced sexual or serious physical abuse, and may be eligible for compensation through the IAP.

To date, over 21,000 applications have been received, 5800 hearings held, over 4600 decisions rendered with award, over 460 negotiated settlements, and total payments to date total over $615,500,000.  For more information, please visit the Indian Residential Schools Independent Assessment Process  website.

The deadline for applying for the Independent Assessment Process is September 19, 2012.


NALSC continues to assist residential school survivors on the Common Experience Payment through each stage - the initial application, the Reconsideration Process, and the Independent Assessment Process.
